Our clients say they like the way we work . . .

We work across the interfaces of business, technology and public policy as a network of highly experienced senior professionals

  • We have an entrepreneurial approach to our projects – taking on risk-sharing and success-based fees as each client’s situation needs
  • We work in small teams at senior level
  • Our advice is bespoke, straightforward and focused on practical outcomes.

Here are some examples of our recent work. They are all 'real' and we have reference clients you could speak to.

Collaborating effectively

A group of small specialist institutions had the problem of developing their intellectual property in the most effective way.

Working together to develop shared and owned strategic intent

We worked together with a wide range of institutions to bring together a group that would benefit from shared services in developing intellectual property.

Together with the group we defined a series of services that could be provided to the group and give support to the process of commercialisation and dissemination of intellectual property.

Benefits of our work

As a result of the first phase of this work, a group of specialist institutions has had an opportunity to share their concerns and aspirations and has been able to work together to develop an answer that will allow them to collaborate effectively.

From consultation to concrete: Making it happen

Building consensus

We were retained by a consortium consisting of a university, a funding body and a development agency to conduct a wide-ranging consultation and provide strategic advice on the outcome. The consultation offered meetings with all 43 of the London’s HEIs and surveyed almost 900 small and medium sized enterprises in the South East.

The project built clear consensus around the need for a practical approach to a new space for collaboration in London; one that is flexible, occupier-led and independent. Our advice was to use the momentum the project had to develop a test project around Kings Cross.

Benefits of our work - making it happen

We identified the creative disciplines as a dynamic intersection between creativity and technology and have worked with a leading institution to turn the “strategic opportunity” in to a reality. In the wake of the economic downturn, there is increased focus by Government and business on the importance of developing new enterprises based on the potential of the UK’s Creative and Technology Industries. Our project is highly relevant to the development of new enterprises from new forms of collaboration.

Generating additional revenue streams

One of the UK’s top ten academic institutions asked us to conduct a review of Third Stream funding in the context of their own initiatives and broader market best practice.

Clarity of thinking about realistic strategic goals

We reviewed current operations in this area as well as broader institutional goals and provided specific, actionable recommendations around significant additional revenue opportunities.

Benefits of our work

The client was able to act on market-tested recommendations and improve third stream revenue and reduce administration costs.

Bridging the funding gap

We were approached by a group of leading academic institutions to help them think through bridging the funding gaps between the intellectual property generated by research, invention disclosure and mainstream seed finance.

Focused market review and process development

We undertook a detailed review of the market in the UK, US and Israel and developed recommendations for a fund structure that would satisfy the needs of academic institutions, investors and government. We also developed a process that would allow academic institutions to monitor and manage intellectual property more effectively.

Benefits of our work

The client group benefited from a pragmatic approach to structuring investment in the early stages of commercialisation. Key elements of the structure have been adopted by a number of leading institutions both independently and as a group.
